Kingfield porch conversion
The project here is a porch enclosure. The objective was to expand the finished living space without altering the footprint of the house. The existing porch was an older enclosure, but unheated and rather poorly built. We put the porch roof up on posts and demolished the existing porch. We framed a new porch at the same floor height as the main house. New windows and insulation were installed and the wall between house and porch removed. Salvage maple flooring was installed to make the transition between the new and old work as seamless as possible. This house was unusual in that all the trim was of vertical grain fir rather than oak or maple. We had to custom fabricate every stick of trim and molding in this project and finish it to match the original woodwork in the home. A coat closet cabinet and flip top bench were custom built to complete the new entry way. The tile mosaic is hand made tile from North Prairie Tileworks. The light fixture is a custom historic re production from Lightworks. The exterior was re stuccoed to match the rest of the house.
